GENEALOGIST If you want to find long lost relatives, get in touch with George. Using a software program called aptly enough "Brother's Keeper" he has over 4,300 names and genealogical information at his fingertips. "I have found second cousins that I did not know existed," states George. "I also found a 5th cousin once removed in Berlin who sent me over 60 pages of information on my family in Germany." George is the webmaster at his Cascade Lakes community (www.cascadelakes.net). He also teaches and coaches at SeniorNet and co-produced Excel and Access courses for SeniorNet Boynton Beach. He maintains records for the Lakes Chapter of Brandeis National Woman's Committee. 78 year old George was born in Manhattan. He earned a B.B.A. Advertising at City College of New York after attending George Washington High School in the city. He worked in upscale retail establishments in New York City selling fine furniture: W. & J. Sloan, Maurice Valiancy and Bloomingdale's. His wife of 52 years, Sondra, is the person that motivates him to enjoy each new day. They have a son Jonathan, a daughter Susan and granddaughter Natalee. George tells us about the computer equipment he uses: "I have a Compaq Presario with Windows XP Home Edition with a 120 GB C drive and an internal 120 GB D back up drive. I also have a 160 GB external hard drive back up and a 2 GB thumb drive. My printer is an HP DeskJet 960C. My scanner is a Canon LIDE. I use a Fujifilm Digital camera. "His final word of advice: "Everyone should have an external hard drive to back up files." APRIL 2007 | |
