This year BRCS is celebrating its 25th anniversary. During the past 25 years we have grown as a Computer User Group to become one of the largest in the state as well as the nation. In order to continue to thrive in these changing times it is necessary for us to move ahead in a positive fashion if we are to remain a viable organization. At present we are providing all with twelve SIGs per month. A review of Boca Bits shows that SIGs are given both during the day as well as in the evening. As one who has participated in a variety of SIGs I can report that the attendance at these free presentations is excellent. Additionally, our Program Director, Dr. Charlie Bender, has created an ongoing series of presenters that have demonstrated such uses of the computer as gaining medical information via the internet to a variety of software programs available to us. Charlie is also participating in a forum with other computer clubs in our area to see if we can schedule software companies and developers to present to all within a short period so they would be more inclined to travel to our area. Kudos Charlie, for thinking, as they say, outside of the box.
With all of the aforementioned in mind we can't move ahead in a positive fashion without YOU, THE MEMBER, becoming an active volunteer. We are losing a SIG leader shortly and need a replacement for a daytime SIG. It can be on any computer related topic in which you have expertise. Give me a call and let me know what you can do. We are also in need of "back-up" volunteers for all the existing positions. Just peruse the inside cover of Boca Bits and let us know what position you would be available to take over should the person doing it no longer be available.
Lastly, I am happy to report that our new Membership Chairperson and his team are almost in place and will be ironing out the changes necessary to make this a smooth operation. We are however in need of an assistant to the Membership Chairperson to sit at the desk in the lobby from about 7:00P to 7:30P on the evenings of our monthly meeting.
